The only time I met the real Fred Buss was at an IAF Confab in Denver, CO., in January, 1994. As most of you vets know, by the time Elsa and I made it Centrum for the fall Academy in 1977, Fred was already in El Bayad.

Now, the one and only Tuecke...this guy I know well, my off-and-time "development partner". Yes, keep a close eye on him, as he has a difficult time staying still. To confine him to a walker is like sentencing him to solitary confinement. But take heart, Tuecke...that's what happens to aging machines. I'm a lot younger than you, but I've only had two surgeries in a span of four months. However, the difference is - those were not the types that kept me immobile for long stretches.

Get well, and...stay away from that gigantic motorcycle of yours. We're past trying to do a trip a la "Motorcycle Diaries".

That’s the last time we saw or heard from him. We’ve sent Xmas cards for a while – don’t remember to which address – and haven’t heard back. He loved teaching and had several classes which added up to almost full time. His son, Lindsey, is in the DC area, first as a lawyer with some prestigious firm and then left to become involved in/director of? a non-profit in some aspect of providing food for homeless, or some such segment of society. Maybe someone in the DC area may know of him or find him & thereby discover if and where Fred is. J

P.S. Dan had back surgery Friday afternoon and was release from hospital this evening. He has done remarkably well. However, he can’t do much except walk – at present with help of a walker – for two weeks. No bending, lifting pushing pulling, etc. So guess who will be doing all that! That won’t be difficult. What will be difficult is keeping him from attempting all that.

Folks,

This is probably the correct one. Perhaps the Tuecke's would way in. About 8 years ago we all had breakfast in Miami, and Fred joined us. He regaled us for 4 hours (almost nonstop -- but hilarious) about everything and then handed out his syllabus for the sociology course he was teaching at the community college -- which had practiduum component whereby these frosh would DO sociology -- by going to the mall and conducting some experiments -- like staring at certain people etc.

At that time he was living with and taking care of his mother in a condo with a view of the intercoastal waterway.

Whoever was at first interested should telephone him!!
