[Dialogue] Matthew Fox

Thanks, Diann, for referencing the NYT editorial. I had missed it. As you know, they're tossing that teacher incentive idea around here in Texas too.. Funny how some think that by waving money around you can get people to work harder or smarter or whatever.

Resonates with Lawrence's "We Are Transmitters" and a NYTimes editorial yesterday:

I too appreciated Original Blessing. Another excellent book by Fox is The Reinvention of Work: A New Vision of Livelihood for Our Time. In it he says, "When we work from a deep and spiritual place we do so without an extrinsic purpose in mind. We work for the sake of working and love for the sake of loving and live for the sake of living... Let work speak. Let work take responsibility for itself. Let work stand up and be counted... Work, like life, arises out of itself from its own foundation. The energy for work lives in the work itself. Therefore we can say that we work for the sake of working... Like life itself, work contains its own reward... Working without a why means letting go of all superficial enticements to our labor and working out of our innermost selves."

I think it was Roseanne Sands standing at the photocopier at Kemper with
"Original Blessing" that first got me intrigued by Matt Fox (who was then at
Mundelein, I believe). Since then I did both the Master's and the Doctor of
Min program with him. The work they are now doing on Creation Spirituality
Communities (this is Mel's big focus) is just starting, but quite exciting,
I think.

Say hello to Matt for me.

Dear Colleagues:

Matthew Fox will spend the evening of 8 November with us for informal
conversation at Abbey North in Haliburton, Ontario (that's Canada).

If there are those who would wish to spend that evening with us, we probably
have sufficient rooms to accommodate you overnight, especially if you book
early.

Deepest regards,

John and Thea Patterson
