The qualities of John Rupert Barnes were clear to me long before 9/11. But
on that day they took another turn.

The year before, in the summer of 2000 we had met at the order reunion in
Vail. We exchanged bits of news and in the conversation I told him that before
going back to London I had some meetings in Wallstreet. He advised me not to
go there. This surprised me. He went on to say that he had been exploring
both meditation and his ability to empathise. He had been meditating on Bin
Laden. In those meditations he had come across Bin Laden's desire to bomb lower
Manhattan. Being both of a man of this and the other world, he advised me that
hence it would be unwise for me to go to lower Manhattan in early August
2000. I told John Rupert I would be fine, that I had a fine place to stay, and
that I am sure Mr Bin Laden would find something else today. I stayed at a
hotel next to the World Trade Centre, and I didn't think anymore about John
Ruperts advice. The rest you know.

A uniquely sensitive spirit man he was. In so many ways.

Paul
