Subject: FW: The Singing Revolution - link
A powerful little documentary produced by an independent filmmaker, an
American of Estonian descent, is making the rounds. It depicts the amazing
"Singing Revolution" in which Estonia defied Russia and ultimately was able
to break away from the Soviet Union after a painful history of occupation by
both Germany and Russia, the latter involving genocide. In this film, first
a few, then thousands, then many thousands joined in song to break the hold
on their nation by their oppressor. The film has screened in New York and
is in Washington, DC, just this week at the "E" Street Theatre. You can see
excerpts at the website using the link below. It also helps the film gain
momentum if you sign up as wanting the film to come to a theatre in your
city.
Unless they had record crowds this weekend it will probably only be in
Washington until Thursday.
