I think it was Soren Kirkegaard: "There is something in the misfortune of even our closest friends that does not displease us".  Perfect description of  schadenfreude.

Well said, Maureen! That last paragraph was a “slam dunk” even though harsh. And I wonder if “schadenfreude” was the word Bultmann used originally.
 
Sitting in Denver seeing many back off their personal passion in favor of getting Obama elected first. There were two things about Hillary that upset me from the beginning – how many times she uses the word “fight” and how her ascendancy to the presidency would divide the country even further than Bush’s has (if you think Dem’s hate Bush…). We need someone with the guts to stand up for a new vision and to put ugly old politics aside. I’m hoping for Obama vs. having to live with sour grapes.
