Dear ICA/OE colleagues:

This is a political assertion by Dr. OliveAnn Davis Slotta in Denver,
Colorado—an active colleague of the various institutes related to
these list serves since the early 1970’s.

I am well versed in the positions and qualities of the leading
presidential candidates in this upcoming election, having read most of
their books and substantial articles by and about them, as well as
having watched the current debates and media reports. I have read the
commentaries on these list serves over the past few months about our
candidate choices. I feel that it is now time to state my position on
this election to all of my colleagues and mentors, both off and on
these list serves.

I want to be clear that I am not an expert in politics. I am an
educator and a voting citizen, with a father who ran for state office
on the Republican ticket once—the sum total of my personal experience.
So this is not about debating policy or anything even close to that.
This is about people, instinct, and making logical choices. Integrity
demands that one must thoughtfully read about and finally choose a
candidate. This week I spent my first evening at the “Hillary for
President” Denver Office, having attended prior organizational
meetings. I choose Hillary Clinton for President, and this is why.

Hillary is knowledgeable about constitutional law and about
congressional practices. She will land in office ready to work without
the several month high learning curve that would be required by a
“newbie” such as Mr. Obama. The times we are in cannot afford a long
lead-in timeline.

Hillary can speak calmly and confidently—even rationally-- about her
religious convictions. She cites theologians and seeks personal
counsel from others when needed. The times we are in require that
religion and politics not be together on the political table.

The style and grace and composure that Hillary has demonstrated over
the past decade will serve her well in the area of statesmanship and
international relations, a priority area for our next president. Her
spouse will be an asset in this area as well, as we seek to repair the
damage to our international reputation of the past eight years. The
times we are in require efficient and effective relationship building
if the US is to return to its role as an essential player on the world
stage.

For these reasons I am a Precinct Leader for Hillary for the Colorado
Caucuses, and I invite you to consider attending your local caucus
(Feb 5 in Colorado) and supporting Hillary Clinton. We’ve always
spoken about bending history. Here’s an opportunity! Let’s bend it!
