[Dialogue] Eight more years? Or No One More Fun To Despise

Hi, Jim, glad you weighed in . . .
Jim Baumbach <wtw0bl at new.rr.com> wrote: >From my understanding of the events of human history, America has never been so blessed as to have Dubya as its "president" for 8 long and grueling years. No one has had the balls to be so scandalously American as this guy.
The history of America has been pockmarked with the most atrocious and heinous of crimes against humanity. Starting with the genocide of the Native Americans, the participation in wars throughout the 200+ years of presence as a nation, the raping and pillaging of countries whose resources lend themselves to fulfilling the American dream, Dubya has surfaced like a fetid scum in a cesspool. He is not to blame for the culture which spawned him, he is the culmination of all that is good or bad about Americanism.
Did Gore win? In my mind he certainly did and I suspect that there would never have been an event we so commonly refer to as "911." Does it matter? Not really because we can't go back and change the outcome. So we're stuck with the terrible reflection of ourselves in the Dubya mirror. Where are the Biblical prophets when you need them?Â
Where is Jonah? Who can get across to Americans that their life style is so gross that if everyone on the planet were to have it, it would take the resources of at least 4 of 5 Earth-like planets to sustain it?
So did Ralph Nader screw up the works for Al Gore?--No doubt in my mind! But who had the greater potential for changing American attitudes and life style, Gore or Bush? Rubbing noses in the poop is a very effective way of house breaking a dog, perhaps that is the only way Americans will ever emerge beyond their despoiling of their own and others habitat. Hooray for Dubya he's a damn nice guy! I just wish we didn't have to martyr so many Iraqis and Afghans in the process.

And WE elected all of these people.
Â
It does not have to continue. Think very carefully about whom you support this time around. It really does matter.Â

Hello all
Â
A few of my colleagues on this list serve were adamant about Nader. Some are no longer with us. It did not remove my appreciation for our friendship but it deeply pained me. I died a thousand deaths about Naderâs participation. All of those who want to blame Gore or who then said it made no difference should by now see that it made a horrible difference. I remember discussions way back in our time on the west side about the fallacy of maintaining some illusional personal integrity and in so doing letting the public good go to hell. Ralph Nader moved from being a committed public servant to being an egoistic maniac. He personally is responsible for the unbelievable disaster of the last eight years and that overshadows anything else he did. His lifeâs work was finally global tragedy. Those are harsh words but he is deserving of them. He has never admitted that he contributed to the Bush disaster. To me he is much worse than irrelevant

With all due respect, David, Al Gore lost the election on his own, unable to carry either Arkansas or Tennessee, either of which would have given him the votes regardless of the Florida outcome. Do you believe that Hillary, (or the Clinton team) represents the highest and best hopes of the progressive movement. I surely do not.

That said, what did you find to disagree with in Nader's piece?

With all due respect to Dick, Ralph rantings as a third party
candidate in 2000Â enabled the installation of George W bush as
President. If Ralph had not been in the race Gore would have won in
Florida and there would have been no need for a recount or a decision
of the uS Supreme Court. I have zero miunus none respect for Ralph.
