[Dialogue] marriage equality in California

Hey Marshall,

If I remember correctly from the old Book of Common Prayer, the ceremony was
called the solemnization (sp?) of matrimony - so in the promises and vows,
we are asking whether this civil ceremony could be seen as a symbol not only
of love between each other, but of commitment to G-d. Thanks. Might be an
interesting court case as to whether one needs clergy credentials at all -
in UMC our two sacraments are baptism and communion - there you must be
ordained (to say the magic) - but to declare that a particular covenant is
an instrument of sanctification?.

Subject: [Dialogue] marriage equality in California

As many of you may know, starting June 17 Californians may be married
without regard to a declaration of gender.

And I may be facing a church trial for taking actions that could be
interpreted as violating the Discipline of the United Methodist Church.
Stay tuned to see if anyone lodges a complaint. My policy in conducting
weddings of couples with a legal marriage license in California is not to
check their genitalia at the door.
