Where do we find the "church" (ala Niebuhr) today? It is seems not to be,
with some noteworthy exceptions, the cigar boxes with steeples, and I am "in
a church" to use Dick's words. Randy

Dear Randy (et al),

I was very excited by a lecture I attended last week at a local community
college in Visalia, CA. It was sponsored by the U.U. fellowship and was titled
"Thank God for Evolution!" It was an evangelically-styled telling of the
Universe Story by Rev.Michael Dowd. Check out _www.TheGreatStory.org_
(http://www.TheGreatStory.org) . He quotes Bryan Swimme a lot, as well as Thomas
Berry. You can download his book of the same title ("Thank God ...") free. I
bought 4 DVD's, which he urged us to copy and distribute. He uses lots of
images from Hubble photos. His blog is at ThankGodForEvolution.com.

>From another DVD cover: (_www.EvolutionaryChristianity.org_
(http://www.EvolutionaryChristianity.org) ):
"A passionate and unabashedly all-embracing, ecological, deep-time honoring
and prophetic/evangelistic celebration of the Christian tradition that honors
Roman Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Anabaptist, Universalist and New
Thought expressions."

He and his wife, scientist Connie Barlow, don't have a home. They live on
the road doing this work. Several of us from our local Presbyterian Church
went, and we'll be showing and discussing the DVD's to more of our
congregation.

I do think the "church" (ala Niebuhr) can be found in this kind of
consciousness-raising work. Much longer than history, much wider than the world.

Mourning doesn't really become me, but it is going along, and involves so
much more than wearing a certain color. The whole world, to me, keeps
fluctuating between flat shadows and brilliant freshness. The wildflowers are
absolutely breathtaking around here.

Blessings,
Jann McGuire
