(Five kids, actually. Me and little brother Tim went and stayed for that
intern year in Rochester, NY, ages 10 and 15 at the time. When I turned 16
my parents thought I should be "sent out" and I spent my junior year of high
school in the Cincinnati House.) Dad died last May and mom followed nine
months later, passing over March 2.
What the ICA/EI/OE did for me in the deepest sense was give me my parents as
authentic human beings. Before they became seized by the message of RS1 we
were living a typical drifting middle class kind of life in our family. They
had always been involved in the local church and had strong opinions,
usually critical, of the pastors and their messages, until their involvement
in EI. Then they got activated and complaining was no longer their m.o.
I see again this tremendous gift; that I was allowed to see them truly
activated as their best possible selves thanks to their decision to sell the
house, quit their jobs, and haul us to the Rochester Religious House in
1974-5.
I appreciate your help if you knew my parents to share reminiscences, or as
Janice requests, offer information on how completed lives were celebrated
via ICA/EI/OE. Many thanks. -- Martha Shepp
