FAMILY DONATE THE JOSEPH WESLEY MATHEWS COLLECTION TO THE WESLEY
THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
?
CHICAGO, IL?March 27, 2008? By Board resolution and family consent
the Joseph Wesley Mathews Collection will be moving from the
Institute of Cultural Affairs in the USA (ICA USA) in Chicago, IL to
the Wesley Theological Seminary at 4500 Massachusetts Ave. NW,
Washington D.C. in April of 2008.? The Joseph Wesley Mathews
Collection consists of correspondence, research and dissertation
materials, books, manuscripts and other writings compiled by Mathews
during his lifetime.
?
Nino Tillman, Executive Director of ICA USA, is excited about the
move and ?can think of no better home than our nation?s capitol for
ICA USA?s founding father?s archival Collection.? He was a true
pioneer of understanding human development.?? The Collection is a
joint gift from ICA USA and the Mathews Family to the Wesley
Theological Seminary, who is providing full financial support for
transport of the Collection.? The Collection will be open to the
public after its arrival in D.C.?
?
The Joseph Wesley Mathews Collection is an archive of Mathews? life
experiences.? Born in 1911, he served as a military chaplain in WWII,
was an ordained minister and was a faculty member at the Perkins
School of Theology.? His mission to gain a deeper understanding of
human advancement and his vocation in the Christian clergy culminated
with his position as Dean of the Ecumenical Institute and Director of
ICA USA in Chicago, IL until his death on October 16, 1977.
