To all who love the song "O Happy Day," one of the great newer recordings is by jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis and a really good black choir. As Kathy said, it will bring tears to your eyes.

Hi,
Got this note from Kathy Marshall this morning and decided it needed sharing!
Dear Friends and Family,
& its one o'clock in the morning and I can t sleep! Obama won the presidency of the United States!!!!
I have a vivid memory when I was in 2nd grade; we were in the school auditorium at Leif Erickson, listening to another school's choir. (For those of you who don t know, I went to an all black school). One choir sang the gospel, "O happy day." I was so touched by that song, I started crying and to this day, I get choked up when I hear it and love that they sang it in the movie Sister Act! Anyway, I have rewritten the words to it for this occasion & hope you enjoy.
(I added the chords for my songwriting buddies).
D G C
O happy day (O happy day)
G E7
O happy day (O happy day)
AM D7
Obama won (Obama won)
AM D
Obama won (Obama won)
AM D
He gave us hope (he gave us hope)
G C
He washed our fears away (O happy day)
G C
O happy day (O happy day)
D G C G
He showed us how to believe in freedom again
C G
Yes we can
D G C G
We believed in change in every way
C G
And overcame today
Love, Peace and Namaste,
Kathy
