        Dear Colleagues,

We have two scenarios for Typhoon Sinlaku in Taipei, one is it will hit us in 10 hours and cross the island over the north end where we live, two is it will bounce off, but it is raining right now and one third over the island and moving 7 mph. We brought every thing off the porch and are having our own party, but we still have electricity and internet. We are dry and inside with our protein morning drinks, but the cat is going crazy. It is supposed to be 100 miler per hour winds, but it is more like gusts of 25 or 30 right now. We will also keep you updated. We have typhoons regularly at this time of the year so the new drainage systems seem to be working so far.

Dick and Gail are staying indoors at their place too.

Keep us posted on Hurricane Ike.

        Respectfully,

Evelyn Kurihara Philbrook, and Larry Philbrook in beautiful but wet Taiwan, isle of Formosa

          Pat,

Thanks. We live in the Montrose area of Houston (about 3 miles southwest of the city center). At the moment we're experiencing dead calm with occasional gusts up to about 25 mph. Oonagh and I with about 8 of our neighbors were sitting out on the front lawn and steps two hours ago having drinks and watching the cloud swirls to the southeast. We're in for the duration now, and expecting the first really tropical storm winds (35-70 mph) around 10 pm - midnight. The eye should be over around 3 am.

I'll keep you posted if the electricity and internet stay up.

Regards, and tell Dan that we have enough Irish Whiskey to see this through.

Here’s hoping our Texas and Louisiana colleagues and families have hunkered down somewhere safe.

Though I’m far from my home turf, I always have my own Hurricane Watch Party when one is heading toward my home country.

You will be in my thoughts & heart as we track Ike. Be safe.

          Pat
