[Dialogue] Hurricane IKE and enlightenment

The short status is Susan and I are fine with no property damage but no electricity. Trees are down everywhere - damage to property pretty much depends on where they fell. Power is coming on line slowly, one estimate was half of customers would have power back by next Tuesday. University of Houston has power and wireless internet, hence my ability to send this. We can walk to campus. Right after Ike a cool front blew in, so conditions without air conditioning are really pretty good. We expect more muggy nights in a few days. Susan and I have gotten a lot of long deferred work around the house and yard done. We are both off work until Monday at the earliest.

The City of Houston is mostly dealing with downed trees and widespread power outages. The city will recover just fine. But as you undoubtedly know from news reports, Galveston and other coastal areas were devastated and will take many years to recover.

I have been reading several books by Eckhart Tolle, and would have the goal of becoming enlightened before the electricity comes back on except that Tolle says having the goal of becoming enlightened is just another illusion created by the ego. Therefore I shall just take a few deep breaths ... hmm, the watcher notices that the ego seems to want to become enlightened and is annoyed the power isn't on ... hmm, feel immediate enlightenment coming on ... Bingo!
