Thanks for sharing this news and allowing our care and concerns to rise to
the surface. you are a courageous man and have with Kathryn always trod you
own trails. I have always admired your critical faculties and ethical will.
I don't think I have seen you since Mario was about three, but every time
you post something it is a gift to the whole. In one way or another many of
us are on journeys in which it is easier to see the endings than the
beginnings We all have much to teach each other as we venture on, like Ron
Griffin and Anne Slicker have in their recent transitions, whether it is 3
months or 6 years or more we are called to magnanimous faith and courage, and
to fullness of life right through the transitions.
bless you and Kathryn for your ongoing witness.

Subject: Re: [Dialogue] My health
Hello all
Up to my 69th birthday, I have enjoyed great health and managed to keep a
decent conditioning routine. About a year ago a few things in my blood test
results were returning moderately irregular readings re: anemia and kidney
function. I was also finding myself to be short of breath. While at one of
my appointments with one of many specialists, the nephrologist (kidney) she
listened to my lungs and heard "velcro" like sounds. After an MRI and a
visit with a pulmonologist, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary
Fibrosis. This an irreversible scarring of the lung sacs which diminishes
the ability of the lungs to take in oxygen. The life expectancy of this
varies widely from a few months to a number of years with the average being
between 3 to 6 years. I have been fortunate to be among the 30 plus percent
that respond to prednisone a medication used for autoimmune diseases such
as lupus which Kathryn has controlled for over 15 years with very mild doses
of prednisone. My spirits are high and I am grateful for the history that
many of us share of the gift of life no matter what hand we are dealt. I
have been dealt many good hands and look forward to the rest of my journey.
I continue to be blessed with a sense of humor which has served me well. I
felt that this was one community that I was obligated to share this with
because of the depth of many of our relationships.
Cheers
