Forty-Day Prayer for Campus Ministries Urged
>From August 17th, 2009 the social network called CollegeUnion.org is
calling The United Methodist Church to 40 Days of Prayer for our campus
ministries. "As millions of students pour back onto our nation’s campuses," they
say, "we will pour out our hearts to God to move anew among our Wesley
Foundations, United Methodist related colleges, and local church ministries.
Almost 1,200 people who heard their call to ministry through a United
Methodist campus ministry have joined a Facebook group (United Methodist Campus
Ministry – Raising Up Christian Leaders) and pledged to pray for our mission
to this generation of college students, staff, and faculty. On behalf of
the women and men who serve on our nation’s campuses – we invite you to
join us in praying for God to do a new thing among our campus ministries this
fall. Our goal is to lift up these vital ministries during the 2009-2010
school year, to witness to United Methodist campus ministries as being vital
centers of vocational calling, and to celebrate the new lay and clergy
ministers who will answer God’s call over the coming decades."
Prayers have been written by people who are supportive of campus ministry
across the denomination including bishops, general board officials,
professors, administrators, and campus ministers themselves; many of whom received
their call to ministry through campus ministry. The prayers can be found
at www.collegeunion.org/prayer. A press release from the General Board of
Higher Education and Ministry can be found here:
