[Dialogue] Question about Tonga

Colleen,
I just learned that you were in Tonga.  I did not know this.
I was in Western Samoa 1978-80.  We did an ITI in Samoa in 1980.
As well as a Human development project 1978.

The Whitney's, the Bushmans, the Pongosis and I where in Tonga prior to the
Pacific Training School in Vava'u.  I have a long funny story about Ken
Whitney, Terry Pongosi and I going to Vava'u to do set up and framing.  We
stayed at the home of the Wesleyan district Superintendent, (she is one of
the pictures you have.  We can not remember her name)  I have a photo of the
banner at the school.  Sorry, it is late, and i can not find it.  If and
when I do, I will send it. Christina Clark, along with several other
"imports" where the main faculty of the school.  The celebration that you
mentioned, where probably on of 3 kinds.  There were faculty celebrations,
school celebrations  and parties that the International faculty had with
some of the Tongans.  Since Terry and I where the Auxiliary staff, we did
most of the practics and liaisons with the Tongans including get materials,
medical care, housing etc, we did not attend most of the celebrations so
can't help you there.  The Grove's daughter was also there.  Ken Whitney and
some of our number one Tongans where in Fiji at the time.  I do not remember
where Don Bushman was.  Age, distance and time have "soften" my memory.

This question about Tonga is for Mary Laura. Kaze Gadway and I are on the
Outer Banks watching the waves and writing stories about our lives. I was in
Tonga with Mary Laura and staff in 1982 for the Pacific Training School. I'm
working on a story about that experience. I really have two questions, Mary
Laura...
If you go to my web site...I have a montage of women and girls on my home
page. In the center of the montage are two Tongan women...and I can not
remember their names. I hope you do...
Also...we had a wonderful community celebratory meal spread out on cloth on
the ground...which we all sat around...with mountains of food. Fortunately
that was twenty-seven years ago when I could still sit on the ground. Do you
remember what that kind of celebration is called...and who participated in
it? Was it the school participants or the village folk...or just the school
staff?
Hope your memory is better than mine.

fond thoughts you have of Tonga that I should include.
