[Dialogue] Good essay

Good essay? I would say "Yes and No" ,

Please remember Niebuhr quoted in the Essay is not H. Richard Niebuhr. It
is his brother Reinhold who is famous for laying out a rational to define a
"good war".

This is not to say that there are not times in history when self defense is
necessary but the emphasis might better be on how to peacefully remove the
causes of war then in justifying the killing when war comes.

This even applies to something like Hitler's war where less vindictiveness
in the Versailles Treaty could very well have stopped Hitler before he started.

I readily admit it is a case of "Is the glass half empty or half full" but
I did not find the essay very hopeful.

As a theologian, I find H. Richard and Walter Wink much more hopeful.
