[Dialogue] claiming promises

Who can describe / share the concept "claiming promises".
How do you describe this to strangers, to the orders customs? ( Like the
three questions we ask at birthday's and anniversary and then claim
promises.)
 
Let me give the details:
Dara, my daughter is graduation with a "masters in Business &
Sustainability" this weekend.
 
Instead a guest booklet, I have cut card stock paper into 1/4 and will have
each person that comes to your party at her home and mine, 
to "claim a promise" for her and put on the paper.
Then collect them, for her to remember.
 
I would like to write directions / definition, so as they get the card to
draw or write.
Who can describe / share the concept "claiming promises"?
