My thoughts, too, Roger. I have incorporated his Know, Do and Style (Be)
points in a presentation I've done in a "Facilitating for Results" workshop.
He puts into words thoughts we may have realized from time to time in our
work, and, perhaps, have forgotten . So I read it again at least once a
year.

I totally agree with Wayne's comment about John Epp's paper - Facilitation
from the Inside Out . Wayne says "It is really good - and very well written
- and it gets at the heart of what I think we're trying to do as ToP
facilitators." Epps talks about facilitation "in profound sense" which he
says "means calling out the authentic humanity among participants in a
group". I think his paper provides a bridge between what several of you have
said happens in an effective RS1 or LENS and effective ToP facilitation
events. So if you haven't already done it, I, too, urge you to read Epp's
paper (it was attached Wayne Nelson's message below). My intention is to
read (or study it) it before the next several facilitation projects I
undertake.

" Facilitating in a profound sense means calling out the authentic humanity
among participants
in a group and assisting the group to become more than the sum of its parts.
It's a task of
reconciliation; of individuals with the group, of people with the
organization, and of people with
themselves."

That's a clip from John Epps' paper - "Facilitation from the Inside Out."
We use it in our 6 And Science of Participation course.

For many, this comes as a sense of relief at finding what they thought must
be there and hoped would be. It helps people name the pillars of their
practice. Clarifies things for them at a step deeper than "methods as
tools." They get the methods and a whacking great bag of tools, all in
alignment with their sense of purpose.

That's a few 'clips' I've heard around the table in that course - after
reading that article and practicing at the same time. It's pretty much
what I said when I read it.

Have a look at it - It is really good - and very well written - and it gets
at the heart of what I think we're trying to do as ToP facilitators.
