Pam, I assume that when you say "they sleep in the same bed" the bed is a double bed. if so, we qualify (we have been sleeping together for the last 61 years). At present we plan to be there at the same time with Charles and Doris Hahn, the second week in May.

You are right, but only if they sleep in the same bed.

Pam, Earlier I was informed that couples staying in the same room would be a flat rate of $ 45.00 per day (room and board).
  Am I wrong??

    Colleagues,

Believe it or not, I find it exciting to be working on the May Archives Sojourn Coordinating Team. Marge Philbrook , Rosemary Albright and I have met several times to prepare for the month of May (when many of you will join us in the tasks of organizing the rich legacy of the EI/OE/ICA.) The good news is that we are planning for you to have a great time. (You will NOT be forced to go into the basement, for example.) Attached is a photo of Marge working with a file in the same beautiful sixth floor room where Archive Sojourners will be working.

The other good news is that David Dunn has just joined our coordinating team, and we anticipate he will “enhance us” greatly. As members of the preparation team, we intend to ensure that you are challenged, but not overwhelmed.

Because the files are massive, we plan to exercise what I call “Chunking”, which is what presenters do so that learners can interact often with the data. (Marge is calling it “Hunking”). Each week in May will focus on a “chunk” or a “collection”. For example, the first week will focus on the Town Meetings Collection from ‘76 and the Global Community Forums around the world. The three other major “Collections” are likely to be:

    1. The New Religious Mode, Spirit Papers and Social Process Triangles

    2. The Core Courses/ the Academy

    3. The Band of 24 Human Development Projects and all the replications throughout the world.

Depending on who comes, there may also be “side” foci to deal with other particular documents or media. These “Collections” are just a part of what we will eventually archive, but this work in May will give us a start at “taking control” of our rich legacy.

We hope to have at least six volunteers for each of the four weeks in May. We will be working during the day on organizing the Archives, leaving the evenings to individual and community life. Although there will be some pre-planned social events, I anticipate there will be different discussions and activities based on the interests of those who are present. One consistent activity for the volunteers each week will be to look at, identify, organize and share photos.

Room and Board will be $30/day per person. Come as many days as you can devote and come long enough to also enjoy what Chicago has to offer. Every day I get an e-mail telling me what is “Free in Chicago”. I am collecting ideas about what is going on that you may be interested in. Mayfest is coming. The World “Fair Trade” Day is coming. Bike the Drive is May 30 and the Spring Flower Show ends on the ninth at Garfield Park Conservatory near Fifth City. The Museum of Science and Industry has just opened the “Science Storm”, a permanent exhibit and the Green Festival at Navy Pier is May 22-23.

The registration may not be on the ICA-USA website yet, but when it is up soon, please register to come. In the meantime, you can let me know your thinking by e-mailing me at: pbergdall2 at yahoo.com

Be sure to ask your friends and colleagues to come with you, and ask those who are not coming to help “sponsor” your sojourn here. (Like running a marathon, or doing a walk for charity.) I am looking forward to seeing many of you here soon.

    Pam Bergdall
