When a team of people met to create a plan for The Archives last summer there was talk of grants being available for funding different stages of archiving the collection. I will look at my notes when I return home. I thought one had been written. I don't know the status of what was done.
Check out The History Factory, www.historyfactory.com for a look at what all is involved when professional digitization is done. Also the OCU archivist (Christina I think is her name) spent time in The Archives last summer and wrote an extensive report. It might be helpful for us all to reread that report and then to get her wisdom on the digitization process.
It sounds like there is movement toward doing the digitization "ourselves." It seems to me it would be helpful to have clarity about the relationship of The Archives to OCU as we continue to think through next steps. Maybe we are clear and I've missed something in reading the communications.

Microsoft office for example has a standard application to do ocr. So most people have access to the technology though they are not likely aware of it.
