I agree, a fresh scan plus the older version for comparison. We definitely
need digital audio files. Especially we need a group to sing and record the
songs in the songbook. Some of the tunes are only known by specific people.
Good job for Randy Williams.

Perhaps the best option would be having a new .pdf scan of the 'gold' paper
documents in the database, along with a separate file of the OCR version
from the Olden Pathways, for comparison purposes. (Kind of like having two
slightly different versions of the Bible to make for endless scholarly
disputes in a couple of centuries.) Plus, what about adding a digital audio
file of the actual recordings from which the transcriptions were made?
(Something Jesus definitely didn't have to work with. Not to mention that he
never filed a copyright notice for "Do this in remembrance of me" or "This
is my body . . ." or the Lord's Prayer.)

I'm proposing that ocr not be a part of the process because of the problems
you mention. As George has pointed out, if you have the pdf you can easily
do ocr on it if you need to. Microsoft office for example has a standard
application to do ocr. So most people have access to the technology though
they are not likely aware of it.

Should we go ahead and scan documents that are in the golden pathways set? I
thought this would be a duplication of effort but it might be useful to have
a fresh pdf copy of the original material.
