Was David Walters there, by any chance??

I remember David from a couple of summer research assemblies and I think he was involved in the Pace consult??

David, you would have to say . . .

Friends,

About that robbery in Kansas City. I was there.

As (perhaps flawed) memory serves me . . . It was a LENS seminar held in the basement of St. James/Paseo United Methodist Church, where (now) US Representative Emanuel Cleaver has been appointed many years. He was recently in the media limelight with his "Satan Sandwich" metaphor, referring to the debt ceiling agreement.

The three men with guns intruded from the side. I was seated toward the back of the room and experienced the robbery as a participant/observer you might say, watching the action unfold in front or me, scanning the room, the participants, the jumpy young gunmen. Holding my breath that no would-be hero would set them off. But all were compliant, pulling out billfolds and putting their heads on tables in front of them as instructed. They made off quickly.

At the same time, just across the hall from where the thieves entered the building, a few people sat quietly in the kitchen, unaware of the events and counting the course registration money, the haul that the robbers unknowingly left behind.

As an epilogue, I was later called to a line-up to identify the bandits at the juvenile detention facility. After that -- paranoid about potential retribution -- I slipped around town incognito and changed my phone to an unlisted number.

Donna -- Woodard -- Ziegenhorn

PS to Anne Epps: Those Harzfeld's suits were the best!

Interesting about being robbed in KC: who was in the KC RS-I with several

new LCX lay persons and can give the details. Either Frank Hilliard or

Slicker 1st Teacher. Did robber have them pass the collection plate?

Be careful in Kansas City events.

Hi Anne,

You need to write a book, or at least some articles, about your adventures

with this wild group. Remember the time we were robbed in the church

basement in Kansas City while teaching a LENS course?

By the way, do you still have your David Dow suit? My sisters and I were

just sorting through my mother's old Harzfeld (Kansas City) suits last

month, and some of them (espcially the jackets) are pretty stylish for

today's fashions :-) Didn't find any white gloves, though.
