[Dialogue] Change belief

    I have followed this conversation about the appropriate function of corporations in culture with interest and curiosity.  I believe it would be well to refresh our memories of Ken Wilber's concept of holons.  Holons are the necessary components of evolving higher structures.  Atoms are holons of molecules, molecules are holons of cells, etc. Let me assert my belief that corporations are the next evolving level of spiritual development.  A new creature is in the offing.



    I am told by authoritative sources that molecules in some places are still protesting and denying the existence of cells, while some pancreatic cells are forming unions demanding a decrease in the required output of pancreatic enzyme.  In a broader context I believe that a new, higher level of spiritual being is in the process of formation, a process that may evolve over the next thousand years.  Our role as holons will be participants in the process but we will not be in control.  The entity that evolves will be beyond our ability to comprehend and the God of that new entity will be much larger than the God of humans.  How do we adapt to our role as holons?  Will we be sustaining nutrients or threatening viruses?



    The pancreas must have healthy holons (cells) to function but the function of the pancreas is not simply to nurture pancreas cells.  It has a larger cosmic function, that of providing a necessary enzyme product for an entity beyond the ability of the holons to comprehend.  This process of corporate evolution is identical to what lesser spirits experienced throughout evolution.  At each level the holons thought that they were the ultimate end of creation.  We humans likewise believe we are the ultimate end and the thought that evolution might move beyond us is outlandish.  But it is happening before our eyes.



    I hear the discussion in this thread as both limited and cosmic.  Do holons get to have input on the evolving species?  Yes.  The hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water have from the beginning put limits on the function of the larger water molecule.  Likewise I think it important that we holons get our input into the formation of the new corporate entity, not for our own self-serving purposes, but to see that the new entity provides a useful service to the cosmos.  It is not helpful to visualize the corporation as demonic nor should we limit the function to that of serving only us, the holons.  In this ongoing discussion I perceive visions of complexity that challenge our limited human concepts.  What this new being having organs labeled as Google, Apple, and Goldman Sachs will look like we can't know.  But it is interesting to watch the formative process.  I believe that you are the yeast in the new bread.
