Next year, 2012, is the 50th Anniversary of Joseph Mathews accepting his
appointment as Dean of the Ecumenical Institute in 1962. It was this event
that set in motion activities that have since resulted in the creation of
national ICAs and a network of EI/OE/ICA colleagues around the world. We
invite you to participate in the 50th Anniversary by hosting a local event
of your design and choosing sometime during the next twelve months. An
announcement, with some ideas and options, etc, has been posted on our
website. It can be seen by clicking on the following link:

When I shared thoughts about this with Herman Greene during his recent visit
in Chicago, he suggested that "projects to take the ICA/EI legacy forward"
would be a good way to mark this Anniversary. My response was "of course,"
but here is the key: This is a decentralized initiative whereby people are
invited to draw upon their own creativity, motivation, and local
circumstances to organize something they consider to be most appropriate. We
only ask that you communicate your intentions with our 50th Anniversary Team
so that we can connect them into one common celebration. As you will see on
the website announcement, the team is composed of Judy Lindblad, Ellen
Howie, Janice Ulangca, and Ester Mae Cox.
We look forward to see what comes forth. Best wishes, and
Take care.
