As I recall those 4 were featured around the ceiling of the Hanada Airport
in Tokyo. JWM probably has a layover there while in one of his more creative
moments. Is that the way Hanada is spelled?

I have a calendar from the Art Institute of Chicago 1996. It contains 12
copies of woodblocks by HOKUSAI. The Great Wave picture is from the Thirty
Six Views of Mt Fuji by Hokusai. I believe the Land, River and Mountain
also come from that series.

As an archivist I also have memories of the past. I know that all
four paintings were by the same person. I also know that the
reputation was that Mt. Fugi is in all of his paintings. But what I
don't know is who suggested we use these or who chose the 4 that we
would use. Does any one have any memory of that? I don't think it
would be written down anywhere.
Carlos Ollison (who is a great artist) drew the four sketches that we
use but I think that was after the four paintings were chosen.
