Colleagues,
You may have seen the note from Paula Philbrook on Barbara Alerding address.
If not here it is again from John Gibson. He also included the address of
Anita Gibson and and update on her. See below. Also I noted that bill
responded to the Pareks Greeting with the word that the decision has been
made to proceed with bypass surgery on him perhaps even now. So bill must
have gotten a glimpse of this list serve if only for a moment.

Hi George,
This is from John Gibson about contact info for Barbara Alerding, and, also
very important, information about Anita Gibson and her contact information.
Both of them, in addition to Bill, would love to receive cards to lift their
spirits.
Please post on the Dialogues,
Elise

Here is an update on Anita I recently sent around to kin and friends:
We took Anita to the Health Care Center (nursing home) here in the Robin Run
Village on May 19. She was less and less able to stand on her own which
made transfer to her wheel chair and to the bathroom precarious. Also she
was getting dehydrated and had a bladder infection. We thought a few days
of rehab and some professional nursing attention would likely result in a
return to our Garden Home. Not so. It became increasingly clear that she
needs more help now than we can provide at home. So, we are applying for
Medicaid in anticipation of a permanent stay in the nursing facility which,
as you may know, is very costly ($245 a day) when Medicare runs out (after
the first 100 days). In the meantime she continues to get physical therapy
every day to keep her body as strong and flexible as possible. We (Ruth or
I) assist her in eating. Ruth writes birthday and thank notes for her.
Anita and I have devotions together each morning and sometime during the day
we do a crossword puzzle together, laugh over old family photos, and when
her energy allows we take a short spin in her wheel chair to "smell the
roses" and revel in the beauty of nature all around us here at Robin Run.
She has visitors or cards every day; and always some beauteous flowers to
adorn her room. She is well cared for by the staff of the Health Care
Center. Interestingly she is the only "vegetarian" on the premise so we are
still educating the food service but they are slowly catching on. Everyone
on staff, visitors, as well as Ruth and I admire her buoyant spirit in the
face of so daunting a prognosis. (For those who may not know, Anita was
diagnosed as having Cerebellar Atrophy in 2009. CA is a somewhat rare
progressive degenerative disease of that part of the brain that determines
balance and coordination. Her cognitive skills are not effected but
walking, hand movements and speaking are effected).
