A Memorial Service to celebrate the completed life of Fredrik L.* *Buss will
take place at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 4750 N. Sheridan Road in
Chicago. Afterwards will be food and drink and an opportunity for those
gathered to share memories about Fred.
It is not an exaggeration to say that there wouldn’t be an ICA without the
contributions of Fred Buss. As an undergraduate student in Austin, Texas, it
was Fred who was instrumental in bringing Joseph Mathews to the Christian
Faith and Life Community. This set the stage for Mathew’s eventual
appointment as Dean of the Ecumenical Institute in Evanston in 1962, an
event that we will mark next year, 2012, as our Fiftieth Anniversary. I have
heard it said that Joe always thought of Fred as the first member of the
Order Ecumenical.
Fred’s son, Lindsey, has arranged discounted rooms at a Chicago hotel for
out-of-town guests. We also have limited space on the eighth floor at 4750.
Contact me if you need further information about lodging options. To help us
prepare for a fine event, I also request that everyone who has plans to
attend to please send me your confirmation at tbergdall at ica-usa.org.
Memorial gifts in Fred's name can be made to:
Memorial College Scholarship Fund
%Martha's Table
2114 14th St. N.W.

Or ICA, or a favorite charity.
Grace and Peace,
Terry Bergdall
