I remember the Frankfurt House, there, in the shadow of that brewery . . .
with the park like surroundings.
John, I still remember the work you did, in Rome, after the IERD, putting
together the Overview: 4 Learnings about development, 3 Objectives of
Development and 6 or so accelerating factors. Let's see how the memory
works:
4 learning's" Development is
a dynamic
(nope, guess that is my problem, I don't remember learning's well, so I keep
learning the same things over and over . . .)
3 Objectives of development (these seem to me to still be genius:
Economic self -dependence -- as much as possible for individuals,
communities, families to base their economics on what they, themselves can
depend on, have some control over, lately, might say their assets . .
Cultural Self-identity -- as much as possible, in the midst of the
complexities and richness of life, for individuals, communities, families to
create their own identity
Shared Leadership -- simple, but oh how our world still struggles with this
. . .
Accelerating factors -- hmm
Participatory Processes was one
Women's engagement

People need trees. They need to see leaves from their windows, to sit in
green spaces, and to play in the shade. Trees draw people out from behind
walls of brick and glass, and in coming together, neighbors forge
relationships, nurture children, and build a sense of community. Tina Prow

I remember John Stringham also from IERD days. There is an intensity and
rationality that he brings to situations. I also remember him from his days
in Canada and his particpation in the Order gatherings. My very best wishes
and deep respect to all and each of you as you gather. Mary D'Souza
