Colleagues - This just in:
----------------------------
The Republicans in the House of Representatives just passed what they called "emergency" legislation to zero out funding for NPR. We're on the verge of losing this fight, after more than a decade.
We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it's unacceptable now.
I've signed the petition to save NPR and PBS. Can you join me at the link below?

Thanks!

You may have heard about this legislation just passed. Some public radio stations will close, especially in rural areas where this may be their only radio source for global news. Other stations will have their programming affected. Not just because of the federal dollars, but because of how these dollars leverage other dollars in each location. And what they are saying is apparently the legislation forbids the spending of any federal dollars for national public radio or PBS (TV). Maybe this means funds the stations already have? I'm not sure. But the attack is real.
If the news reporting of public radio and TV is muted, the biggest corporations will have even less challenge to their positions that need to be challenged. For example, the current discussion about nuclear energy safety!! We're not talking about a major effect on the national deficit here. The federal government now spends $1.35 per American each year to support public broadcasting. That's $430 million a year.
If you want to act you can consider signing this petition - I will. And you might contact your representative and senators.
