Greetings from Roy and Gene Philbrook,
This is an announcement to people who have shared the journey with
us.
We are excited about the launching of Year Exploring Service (YES).
Young adults will volunteer for a year with a not-for-profit
organization and, at the same time, live in intentional community to
reflect on living a life of service. This program is associated with
St. Matthew´s Episcopal Church in Edinburg, Texas, and nationally
with the Episcopal Service Corps (ESC). This may be geographically
a long distance from you, but if you know any young adults who might
be interested in a life of service, tell them about us. Each July,
we will be selecting a group of young adults to participate in this
program.
This program is being built on our foundation and experience with the
Ecumenical Institute/Institute of Cultural Affairs.
The program has 5 aspects:
· The living of justice by being engaged in direct service.
· The building of an intentional community to sustain
themselves.
· The self-conscious experimentation with their worship and
prayer.
· The study and reflection on both contemporary and
historical issues and the building of a "meditative council".
· The thoughtful communication of their own journey and the
calling of others to be aware of their journey.
There is more information at our website
www.yearexploringservice.org.
The initial event of our program will be the Profound Journey
Dialogue. You may be aware that a self-selected team has been
developing this construct over the last few years. The Profound
Journey Dialogue (PJD) is about the deep journey of our lives: "Will
life be something that happens to you? Or Is life something which is
happening through you?" This event utilizes universal, inclusive
language and offers empowering images as tools for persons caring for
themselves as they care for the world - from the local to the entire
Earth community.

(YES) and Profound Journey Dialogue.
We are asking you for your assistance in the following ways:
1. Internships. If you know a young adult who might be interested
in an intern program, direct them toward the Episcopal Service Corps
(ESC) and Year Exploring Service (YES). The ESC internships for the
18 diverse programs across the country begin in July and August of
each year and are filling up quickly for this year. There will be
future internships they can apply for if they are interested.
2. PJD. The Profound Journey Dialogue is open to whomever is
interested and is scheduled for July 15th and 16th in Buda, Texas,
just south of Austin, Texas, USA.
If you are interested or know someone who is, please let us know :
email to yearexploringservice at gmail.com or by phone at (956) 789-
6149. There is a brochure available at www.yearexploringservice.org.
3. Advisory Board: If you would like to participate in our
advisory board, we would like to know. The advisory board will be a
virtual board with communication through email.
4. Donations: Our program is funded primarily by the Service Sites
where the interns will be working. We do however need funds to cover
the initial set up cost and are looking for donations. Please
consider a donation to St. Matthew´s Episcopal Church, Year Exploring
Service, 2620 Crestview Dr., Edinburg, TX 78539. Any donation will
be much appreciated. As we move this program forward, the number of
donors becomes an important indicator of the support for the effort.
Our interest in your donation is for the indication of broad support,
as well as our need for financial resources. Please consider a
donation.
If you are ever in South Texas please come for a visit, we have a
guest room.
Please consider the actions above.
Thanks.
Peace,
Roy and Gene
