Reminds me of our fascination with tarot cards. Are you still doing them, Terry?

Here is a interesting story. Terry and I are climbing Mt. Fuji. Halfway up the mountain, at an overnight 'lodge', we are eating curry rice and Terry pulls out a deck of tarot cards. I am thinking how in the world could this straight-laced guy be into oracle stuff. Sure enough, within minutes we are deep into opening up our personal worlds and hidden demons that I would have never shared with anyone. Terry showed me it was a technique, not magic.

Food is communication. It is the first step of the meeting of disparate worlds when two people or groups meet and share an experience. I do international exchange programs between Thais, Japanese, Chinese, Brits and Americans. We always include a food-making and food-sharing event in our programs. It is part of the give-and-take of exchange. In the field of intercultural communication, food is considered the first step of crossing borders, and understanding that human cultures are not universal, but profoundly different--as we discovered in the six human-esses, called 'urs'.

I imagine that the Green Rise kitchen is like a daily tarot reading experience. I cook my Japanese miso soup and look over at my neighbor who is making a sweet, salty & spicy salad with mangos and bean sprouts. We share with words and we share with tastes.
