[Dialogue] Vatican II influences on EI-OE-ICA (David M Dunn)

David,

Just an interesting tidbit that you might find interesting.  I was a student at Perkins from1962-65, also the dates of Vatican II.  My professor of church history was Albert Outler, who was an official Methodist observer to the Council.  When he returned he gave his report which he entitled "Reformation Roman Style," which held both the significance of what had occurred, as well as a dose of Outler's notorious sense of humor.  I don't know if there would be a manuscript available at Perkins or from some other Methodist source.

By the way, to add your list you might also remember some of the work we did with the Ignatian Retreat.

For what reason does the gentleman from Denver rise with such a nuanced & particular piece of RS1 arcana?

Perhaps he is writing a dissertation on the origins, practices and theological roots on a church renewal seminar in the 20th Century? I'm thinking a radio script might be more fun.

Nothing quite so nuanced or arcane.

I'm offering my first homily—on the Samaritan woman at the well—this Sunday at Church of the Holy Family in Aurora, Colorado, where Burna and I are now active. It's an Ecumenical Catholic parish and I'm imagining how I might trace my journey from Central Methodist Church, Lansing, MI, through the EI of the late sixties, to the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC) of 2012.

It's a journey that includes Warriors of God, Bishop Egan, Fr. Winus Roeten [please forgive misspelling] and Fr. Raphael Davila, Shaping the Coming Age of Religious Life, The Way of All the Earth, all manner of exercises, the Daily Office, and dozens of et ceteras.

But to end up drawn to a new and movemental iteration (the ECC) of an ancient and the under-reported Old Catholic tradition is a most surprising turn that calls for some clearer than average story telling—not to mention self-talk. :')
