Colleagues:
Such a great picture of Slicker. I look forward to reading his book. Now, I have pictures of two of my saints named Joe: Matthews and Slicker.
The pictures are on the door to my office. Every time I come in or go out it I pass before the presence and memories of both, and it is like a movement through an inner peace that enriches and transforms an outer awareness of the Journey to the East.
In another category, I have a book on the hall bookcase near my office. I pass this little gem on every trip too. The title of the book is, "are you fun to live with?" (Lionel Whiston)
    Damn book!
    Bill

Met with Joe today in Dallas. He is still full of life, love and hopefulness. Part of his experience in the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai is now in a new book: Forgiving The Unforgivable: The True Story of How Survivors of the Mumbai Terrorist Attack Answered Hatred with Compassion. He and John's responses are woven into the story.

Hope appeareth, but it is not your Hope—you do not have anything to do with it. It just appeareth. It comes as a stranger, as an alien—it just appeareth! You do not even know why you hope. How in the world could you hope when there is absolutely nothing to justify any hope? ~Joseph W. Mathews
