THE CONTEXT AND SPIN
The chart on the preceding page is an attempt to
capture the reflections and broodings of a number of colleagues
on the Exemplar as a spirit tool for a time of doing, and specifically
as a solitary exercise and/or corporate conversation.
The outside categories in each column can be read
as a statement about the specific role being considered. For example
for the Poet: "Being the Vision who reveals the Wonder"
or, "as the one called to reveal the wonder the Poet becomes
the vision." The second line "Humility, Wisdom,"
etc. are the Sun Tzu qualities of a General spread across the
Exemplar faces. The fifth line, "Meditation, Poverty,"
etc. are from the New Religious Mode Chart and deal with the needed
stance and discipline required for the role. The fourth line is
from a talk on the five dimensions of guarding the spirit revolution
in our time and speak of the major task of the particular "Face".
A talking through of each face can be done for a
spin releasing the brooding and imagination or the group. For
example:
The Poet as the Anointed, is the one who reveals
the wonder of the mundanity of life by being the Vision. Standing
present to the need for revitalized global symbols, the Poet stands
present in meditation to all the symbols that have marked the
journey of humankind up to this point and in humility dares to
create the poetry for a human future. In so doing he dares to
stand as a solitary giant illuminating the other world and awakening
awe.
THE SOLITARY REFLECTION
The working chart is a means of taking the abstraction
of these faces and grounding them in both historic and current
significance. Its purpose is to lead to a reflection of my own
vocation and election. It can be an exercise in itself, or can
be done before a corporate conversation.
