AND HAMLETS OF THE EARTH

GIVING NEW FORM . . .

TO EVERY HUMAN SETTLEMENT

ALL AROUND THE WORLD

people are

looking for

ways to

change things

meaningfully

in their com-

munity. In

many places

creative efforts

are beginning

to attack the

heart of the

social chal-

lenges

HERE AND THERE

in surprising

places are lit-

tle groups.

Maybe they

are planning,

organizing a

workday or

engaged in

community

beautification.

Perhaps they

are setting up

a preschool.

Certainly, they

are creating

great cele-

brations.

THE STATE ASSEMBLY

In the U.S. there have been several Statewide cam-paigns. For example, in Oklahoma on March 26 there were 100 forums across the State. Where this has happened there has been a State Assembly to bring together interested people to evaluate the happening in terms of the State. The Assembly has illuminated a network of care across the State. It has enabled people to affirm their care for the globe in a new way, and it has allowed some careful thinking about the future direction of the State. The days have been great celebrative occasions.

IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Nob Hill: California: Citizens immediately activate a public awareness campaign with particular help for elders.

Ferndale, Wales: Coordinator takes a week's holiday to make sure forums come off in other places nearby.

Lower East Side, New York: Citizens organize a thirteen week training programme for leadership.

Maliwada, India: Community gathers to construct a health clinic.

AND AFTER A FORUM

The Global Community Forum has been developed by the Institute of Cultural Affairs, a notforprofit research, demonstration and training organization. The Institute of Cultural Affairs is concerned with community development. It has initiated twentyfour Human Development Projects across the globe. These are in the forgotten communities which are now undertaking comprehensive social and economic reformation programmes. The Global Community Forum, described in this booklet is another focus of the work of the Institute.
