Local Church Programs Pathway
At the heart of a people is their predominant
devotional life; unless that changes with the times, foundational
change cannot happen. The Institute of Cultural Affairs is rooted
in the renewal of local churches and provides a range of programs
for both laity and clergy. This pathway gives a preview of the
history of this work, the programs being offered and a practical
as well as spiritual approach to this task.
HISTORICAL TRENDS
- taking the churches on a journey towards their own renewal
has been intentionally going on for almost a century - a theological
renewal based on putting the Christian scriptures and self-understanding
into the secular vernacular
LOCAL CHURCH EXPERIMENT
- enacting a tactical system of comprehensive actions in worship,
study, life together and mission allows a congregation to transform
itself as needed
LOCAL CHURCH PRAXIS
- creating a model of how a church can operate effectively in
an age of complexity and diversity calls for practical and personal
images of possibility
SPIRIT LIFE PRACTICES
- basing all change on a renewal of the spiritual life requires
a phenomenological map of the spirit dimension of life and a series
of solitary and corporate practices to access God-consciousness
for sustained periods of time
