This lecture sets forth the Guild as the local formation of human sociality. The subheadings are 1) The Guild is the forging of practical vision, 2) the gathering of resurgent men, 3) the catalyzer of social change, and 4) the fulfillment of human engagement. It thus sets forth the Guild as a practical, significant response to the crisis of the times and provides directional hints as to how the Guild may be activated.

This lecture is an indicative, secular, passionate "altar call." The listener needs to experience ; something like "Aha! I have a fantastic possibility of engaging the civilizing process...and, incidently, the world will go down the drain if I don't." The lecturer assumes his audience to be those who are setting out to form guilds -- though he never says so. The lecture then sets the context in which the decision to form the Guild is obvious.
