A blanlret?

If not a blanl~et, what in its place?

A certain boy . . . or girl? ~ good job? Money? Success?

Or is it approval of your group you must have?

A sense of being lilted and wanted by those around

you? Of being SOMEBODY? ,

The feeling that what you do matters?

Or maybe you require a bigger blanl~et . . . a world safe for democracy? The preeminence of western civilization?

You're probably not as franlr about it as Linus. But chances are you're clutching some sort of blanket.

What is it?

Who's "Lucy" for you?

Who decides what you can and cannot have, should and should not want?

The hil~s? The "crowd" . . . sorority sishn, fraternity brothers, campus "wheels"? Professors?

Or does "Lucy" seem bigger . . . embodied, per. haps, in the national and shte government, laws, policemen and dra* boards? Or in all the "pres sures of our society, our cultural mores, customs,

practices, and beliefs"?

Or in the religious community, the church and felt Iow church members?

Or in the "objective data" of science?

Do these "Lucys" mal~e your decisions? Are you trapped?

Or can ANYONE decide for you what you musl have?

What if "Lucy" talres away your blanlret?

Will you beat your head in?

What if you're rejected? Pushed around? Can't do what you want to do?

What if you don't mal~e it? SupDose you discover that you're not particularly brilliant? Not successful? Can't even get a niclrel ahead?

What, in other words, if you're just NOBODY?

Or, what if the world goes to pot? What if the "ups" become "downs" and "we," meaning you, lose out?

What if life doesn't mal~e sense . . . isn't even worth living any more?

What then?
