THE TEAM

1. The key today for any success in carrying out the creation of a vision is the Team as the center of the creative power of corporate action. It is the primary unit of corporateness.

2. Without teamwork nothing finally happens. It is necessary to have caring groups within any larger entity who are willing to live and die together in the assurance of winning.

3. The team is made up of every kind of individual representing the broader community. It leaves out no one as a sign of its decision to care for every last human being on this earth. The team is not made of those people one would willingly choose, but of those imperfect human beings who are the very creativity needed for any task when working together.

4. The team's focus in the midst of doing its task is to train and journey people into and amidst its profound humanness. It understands that the basis of social change is the depth spirit of every human being and the of the community. Therefore, its primary task is that of being "journeymasters of the spirit." If in the midst of its practical missional tasks, it has not done this task, then it has not done anything at all which can last.

5. The Team cuts over against the tendency in life of "managing" through mediocrity by the accountability of teammates to challenge depth creativity and nurture authentic risktaking.

6. The Team reflects the interior decision of its individuals. It is the decision of giving up one's own "druthers" in life for the sake of others. It is the decision to have only one mission in life and to see that everything done is finally toward enabling that one thing. It is the decision to be obedient to the Mystery that is, to the Yes of life itself and therefore saying a Yes to all other creation.

9. The Team is a sign of individual motivity. The discipline of the members of the team comes from personal interior commitment and decision which is selfimposed, rather than what someone else requires. It is Being your own person while knowing that your life is not your own. It is holding oneself to "loving God", or loving total reality, and thus, seeing the Team as the corporate way to enable the decision to carry through that commitment.

8. The Team's Intellectual Care ensures the continuation of the study life, or enlightenment of every member, by sharing the common memory and style of the past, enabling rational and intuitive prowess for creating the models of the future, and developing the skills and missional tools for action.

9. The Team's Physical Care is a response to the individual's and group's personal and material needs which can enable more effective and longrange missional creativity and action. Its care enables the transformation of matter into spirit by caring for space, time and human relationships, down to the smallest of things.

10. The Team's Spiritual Care establishes one's local identity through the ensuring of celebration and creation of symbols which sustain and motivate, by caring for the details and by building a selfconsciousness of the foundations for one's vocational integrity and corporateness.

11. The Team's Vocational or Volitional Care, out of its collegiality, enables its members to continually reaffirm the decisions they have made. It finds ways to continually give permission to engage totally in the task and to enable one another to see how one's vocation is carried out in all its daily tasks. Its care of the Team' vocation is symbolized through regular practical and symbolic accountability which releases its members through absolution upon the brokenness of their lives and work, allowing unimpeded movement into the future.

12. Love for the Mystery of Life and for the total world is the only reason for the Team's existence. It is a task out of sociological love which radically cares for the world by addressing the moral issue of our time.

13. It sees in colleagueship, or teamship, a way for all gifts to be used for mission Therefore, friendship is irrelevant, as is concern for one's moods, etc. Its. concern for life and love of the Mystery allows the Team to understand one's colleagues as a gift in each other's life.

14. The Team understands that caring for the world, and for each other, is done structurally, and most often through assignments. This gives the opportunity for raw creativity in which individuals and the team are pushed beyond what they considered the impossible. They discover the ability to do anything required. They discover that, through structural assigned responsibility, they are a visible sign of equity and justice.

15. The Team comes together to honor human expenditure, to name common experiences, to build models to implement required tasks in the mission, and to celebrate the victories it claims. Its gatherings are times to ritualize and significate the power of those who decide to act.

16. The Team is a public sign that the corporate work of the mission in the midst of the 20th Century can be lived, unreduced as the great moment in all history that it is. It is a public sign that the power of authentic life is the YES to creation, in which "life is bound to life." It is the public sign that full responsibility acted out is the Freedom of life. It is the public sign that no one need be victimized by external settings, by others or by themselves; that it is possible to live this human journey with open eyes and joyous heart.
