[Oe List ...] Bonhoeffer quote, Help

Sorry, I can't`help with the Bonhoeffer quote.  I looked up flag church and 
Bonhoeffer in Google and couln't find anything either.  But I did find a 
lot of quotes commenting on flags in churches and how much Bonhoeffer had 
warned about such nationalistic displays.

Your email reminds me of a story from my church in Chicago.  Our minister 
had served in Korea before going to seminary and believed in containment, 
etc.  However  when we renovated the church in 1956, the flags (1 
"Christian" and 1 American)had to be taken out for several weeks while we 
redid the floors.  Afterwards the American flag never made it back into the 
sanctuary.  My mother told me that one of the congregation members remarked 
to the minister about whatever happened to the flag.  He answered, "Yes, I 
wonder what happened to it" and that was the end of it.  That made and 
impression on me, for one thing that the minister "neglected " to put the 
flag back out of a feeling that it didn't belong in the sanctuary.  And 
secondly, he did it in a way that avoided confrontation.  He later got the 
church involved in organising with Alinsky in our neighborhood.  My 
experiences in that church were part of what moved me later to work in the 
local church.
