Thanks, Jim for your thoughts.
I am reminded of the phrase"world wide and history long"as I read your
words.
For me, down here in Australia, I see the arrival of a new Pope as a good
move, wrought by God .
There is so much of a historical and socio/political/ religious swirl
happening right now. It is great to hear of some of the proactive moves for
various Universities, and from Fox himself. We will remember the date of
May 15th.
I have said yes to all of my dear colleagues who have written on this
subject on the listserve.
Every month I attend a gathering of Catholic women. ( Men are very welcome,
but it is mostly a group of widows and Nuns.) We read and study articles on
the spirituality of our times, and I am kept up to date with the Vatican and
also the messy Australian Catholic scene. The Cardinal here in Sydney is a
very strange bloke, and runs a hard line.
I have been very encouraged to listen to the women, as they talk over their
vision of the future Church. I have been amazed/humbled at their courage
and hope. Over the years I have learnt so much from them.
Jim often says to me that we are in the 40/400 year wilderness, and that
this is the time to drink from whatever wells we find; to sustain ourselves.
Peace be yours, and to Alice,
Isobel Bishop.
