Dear friends,
re Department of Peace, aka the Peace Alliance
I spent last Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday morning at a training for the Department of Peace campaign along with 30 other Texans. (I was torn because another Quaker from Austin was driving up support Cindy Sheehan in Crawford. I am very glad both are going on but feel I made the right choice for me.)

The intent is to establish a cabinet level position for peace providing training for non-violent solutions at every level from families to international. Not incidently, this requires starting from peace within yourself. A bill on this will be introduced in the House of Representatives on September 12 this year. A national conference and lobbying effort will be going on at the same time. Last session the bill had 51 sponsors, but did not get further.
> Please check this out. It is a practical, long term project to change the mindsets of individuals and
groups and the course of this country.
