[Oe List ...] HELLO NEW ORLEANS

Hi all,
I feel like I have a loved one in intensive care or surgery & I'm in the
waiting room. Really.

I received a call early this morning from A.M. Noel who was one his way to
work in Seattle area, I think. He's trying to get in touch with Father Winas
Rooten's family. Winas is in France at the moment. I can't even remember how
to spell his name correctly, I'm afraid.

I've been on the internet blogs - here's one
(http://www.livejournal.com/users/insomnia/599039.html) & seeing incredible
aerial photos of New Orleans. No word on them from anyone I know. Many
messages from people who evacuated & want to know how their neighborhood
fared. The network news just pans the city quickly - you can't recognize
landmarks - and shows the Superdome.

Because of the major flooding, power lines are down everywhere, and roads
are rivers, trees are barricades, so it's going to be slow getting power and
transport rescue done. You've probably seen most of what I've seen on the
weather channel & the major channels news coverage. The fire in the building
surround by water that you may have seen is the old Southern Yacht Club on
the shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Probably a broken gas main. In other major
floods, after the rain stops, the water usually drains out back to the
rivers or soaks into the ground. Here the water can't drain out & so much of
the land is concrete so it can't soak in.

Here's some irony. This morning the sprinkler system at our condo building
popped a leak and flooded a bit in the garage where our car is parked.
Nothing major. Just now someone called that they saw water coming from under
the door of our storage space in the opposite side of the garage - no one
else's. I went to look and pulled out some stuff that had some water damage.
Again, nothing major. But I felt some kinship with people assessing water
damage in LA, MS, AL. Of course they've lost lives and everything, not just
cardboard boxes.

If anyone hears from any of our colleagues, please post it. I now wish I had
a blog, myself.
Pat

I thought Carl lived in Tennessee or something; I think Carlos Z lives/lived

near the French Quarter, the last time I traced his address.

George and Colleagues,

Let us add Carl Ennis to our concern list. I appreciated Pat's message on
what she has been doing about contacting our colleagues in the hurricane
area. Thanks one and all.

Peace,
Harry
