[Oe List ...] The completed life of Mary Smith

Frank, thank you for posting the notice of Mary's
death.

Mary was such a quiet, but determined colleague. In
1968-69, our family was assigned to the new Religious
House in Los Angeles. Paul was well known by his
friends and colleagues to be habitually behind
schedule--whatever schedule was prompting him. One
time on a visit to their house we found him to be
wearing a new large watch. It was a watch that sounded
an alarm and was conspicuously hanging on a prominent
chain around Paul's neck. When we asked about the new
ornamentation, Paul explained that Mary had given it
to him to try to help him deal with his propensity to
tardiness.

I don't think that gift changed Paul's habits very
much, but I always considered it to be a really
thoughtful symbolic gesture on Mary's part (and far
better than complaining!).

Mary will be missed.

Grace and Peace,

Doris Hahn
