Greetings, friends and colleagues --

As you know, I NEVER - well, almost never - initiate a conversation on this listserve, but I am moved to do so now by having just read John Perkins' book, "CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN."  I want to strongly encourage you to read it if you have not already done so.

It is a frightening and sober account of our foreign and economic policies and one which I believe the leaders and citizens of the United States need to be aware of.  Working together, we can reverse this inexorable push of our government and corporations toward globalization and this book can help us do that.

I, for one, will be working toward this reversal by:
1)  e-mailing my senators and congressman about this book
2)  telling my friends and family about this book and encouraging them to act
3)  talking about this book to the groups with which I am associated, and
4)  encouraging my pastor to read this book and promoting it as THE summer reading book for our congregation, to be followed in the fall by a series of discussion sessions.

I hope you will read this book and work in whatever way you are able toward realizing the TRUE American dream of a just and compassionate world.
