Roxanna, I appreciated the heads up on the book and your list of things you
intend to do!  Another book we have found very helpful on this subject is
"Alternatives to Economic Globalization."  This is such an important issue
for our time.  I think educating ourselves on it is critical. Thanks again.

P.S.  Another important book we've recently read on the environment is "Plan
B" by Lester Brown.  It's very related to economic globalization.

Greetings, friends and colleagues --

As you know, I NEVER - well, almost never - initiate a conversation on this
listserve, but I am moved to do so now by having just read John Perkins'
book, "CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN."  I want to strongly encourage
you to read it if you have not already done so.

It is a frightening and sober account of our foreign and economic policies
and one which I believe the leaders and citizens of the United States need
to be aware of.  Working together, we can reverse this inexorable push of
our government and corporations toward globalization and this book can help
us do that.

I, for one, will be working toward this reversal by:
1)  e-mailing my senators and congressman about this book
2)  telling my friends and family about this book and encouraging them to
act
3)  talking about this book to the groups with which I am associated, and
4)  encouraging my pastor to read this book and promoting it as THE summer
reading book for our congregation, to be followed in the fall by a series of
discussion sessions.

I hope you will read this book and work in whatever way you are able toward
realizing the TRUE American dream of a just and compassionate world.
