Mary,
Thanks for drawing the listserve's attention to the last page of this
week's Time Magazine and the essay by Andrew Sullivan, "Grace Arrives
Unannounced." The title caught me by surprise, and I read it yesterday in
utter amazement at its beauty, profundity, and relevance. I would have
expected to find it in America, the Jesuit publication.
During this Lenten season, both Time and Newsweek have had lengthy
feature/cover articles on the beginnings of Chrisianity, on Jesus, and more
recently on Mary. My first impulse was to cynically conclude that they were
playing to the radical right in a strange display of articles that most of
their non-believing subscribers would question. However, having read each
piece, I was astonished to find that what they contain is the more recent
research of Biblical scholars that most Catholics and Protestants,
unschooled in theology and Biblical research, would never have come across,
research findings that would be anathema to the religious right.
If you're able to send a scanned copy, Mary, I'm sure that many on the
listserve would appreciate it. Thanks again for your comment and heads up.
