Dear Brian,
I am just reading a portion of Ursula Leguin's book called "Always
Coming Home" , the last lines of that portion are this:
Walk carefully, well loved one,
Walk fearlessly, well loved one,
Return with us, return to us ,
be always coming home.
Then there is a poem by Mary Oliver which is one of my favorites:
WILD GEESE
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
And the "best" line is -
"Over and over announcing your place in the family of things."
We received your email message with great joy. Fred and I share our
healing energy with you and rejoice in your improved health.
And, here is a closing that I always used with my children as I would
write letters to them from far away -
Take care of yourself for Planet Earth continues to need your passion
and energy.
You and Jeanette are loved.
